Nozawa Onsen BASECAMP

Nozawa Onsen BASECAMP is an apartment building of two bedroom self-contained apartments, located in a quiet area in village center between Oyu Onsen and the Nagasaka Gondola, next to the mountain. Comfortable for families and small groups of 4-5, maximum up to 10, depending upon the unit layout. Western mattresses on traditional tatami flooring or raised bedframes, shower in bathroom. There is a common dry room, common laundry room, and a lounge/play room/study in the lower level of the building.

Apartments each have a kitchen in living/dining room flanked by two Japanese style tatami rooms capable of fitting 2 persons each with western mattresses on top of the traditional tatami flooring (Apartments #102/103/202) or standard western beds (Apartments #201/101/203) with non-allergenic bedding linens provided. Each apartment has one private shower and toilet in the bathroom, and Deluxe apartments have an additional shower room ensuite of the master bedroom (#101/201/202/203). Each apartment is 50-55 square meters in size and comfortable for families and small groups with or without children. We also have one 3 bed/3 bath apartment that sleeps up to 10, ideal for a few families or larger group together (Apt B1).  Gear can be stored in the common area dry room of the building or at recommended rental shops near the gondolas, which will store your rentals each night for dry/wax to avoid the hassle of taking gear back and forth. The common area lounge/playroom has sofas and large tv, Japanese and international dvd movies, retro video games, board games, a selection of books for all ages, as well as a few desks for workspace.

We are available to support your stay, provide local knowledge and point you in the right direction to pursue your interests, and and help make any arrangements you might need.

The apartments are located in a very convenient location in the village, snuggled in a pocket next to the mountain on a very quiet sidestreet, you can nearly `ski-in` through the trees from the piste while also only a few steps from the village main street `Oyu Dori` with onsen, shops, bars and eateries.

The village direct bus connecting from Iiyama Shinkansen Station "Nozawa Onsen Liner" arrives just 10 minutes walk from the apartments, or taxi can also be taken from Iiyama station in about 25 minutes. Taxis and hires are available from the village and shuttle buses to neighboring ski areas Myoko Kogen and Hakuba are also available by pre-reservation during ski season. If you want to rent a car during your stay to have more flexibility, we can make recommendations. 

Taking the local train line along the Chikuma River back to Nagano or further downstream into Tokamachi in Niigata is also an enjoyable slow-life and picturesque experience.

It is about 5 minute (200 meters) walk to the new Nagasaka Gondola House from our building. It is about 5 minutes the other direction (200 meter walk) down the hill to Oyu Onsen and main street (Oyu Dori) shopping. There is a short-cut from the apartments by walking past the village zen temple about 5 minutes (250 meters) to the Yu-Road indoor escalator which carries you to the other gondola at the Hikage Bowl Area.

We have a minimum 2-night stay in the low seasons and 7-night during peak season. In the winter months, the minimum stay is longer but there are openings between bookings that allow for some shorter stays depending on the dates.  We are glad to provide local recommendations for your holiday about local area activities, restaurants and experiences, shopping, taxi/shuttle/car rentals, and other things you may be interested in.

After many years of work, we finally have been able to acquire and create our own parking lot next to the apartment building.  Parking is a very difficult issue in the village and until recently guests driving to the village needed to park in public lots 10-15 minutes walk away, so we are very happy to provide this convenience.  However please be aware that the space is limited so please let us know to reserve in advance, and also be aware of the difficulties of driving in the village.  The location is at the end of a very narrow road that can be dangerous in winter heavy snow and ice conditions.  The good news is that everything in the village is walkable as it has been for time and eternity, and once you are parked will not need or want to drive around except for day trips outside the village.
